Film Night: Flood

FLOOD (2025)
Returning home to California’s Inland Empire, filmmaker Katy Scoggin seeks to reconnect with her estranged father, who works as an elementary science teacher. He is the only evangelical left in the family, and as they face their differences on faith, family, and belonging, their journey becomes a portrait of empathy and resilience. Together, they find new ways to listen and bridge divides.

Adam Blackman is a nonprofit management professional and freelance editor. Throughout his 25 years of nonprofit management, he has developed networks of support for causes as varied as HIV/AIDS service in New York City and Chicago, justice-impacted individuals nationwide, and New York City’s Chinese immigrant community. He has taught writing and civic engagement in K-12 class-rooms and acquires and edits picture books for an independent children’s publisher specializing in realistic, representative books for socially thoughtful children. He lives with his tween son in Brooklyn and has been a Coop member since 2007.

Katy Scoggin is an award-winning documentary film director, cameraperson, and producer. Her feature directorial debut Flood screened at film festivals worldwide and won Special Mention in International Competition at IDFA in 2025. The film premiered on PBS Independent Lens on July 13, 2026. Previously, Katy worked for Laura Poitras on three features and two shorts, including Oscar-winning CITIZENFOUR (HBO), Risk (Showtime), and Emmy-nominated The Oath (POV). She was a cameraperson on feature docs Who Moves America (True/False) and Adam’s Apple (SXSW). She was a Mylonas Honorary Scholar at WashU, a Fulbright Scholar in Berlin, and a Graduate Assistant at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, from which she has an MFA in Film Directing.

This film will be screened by  Zoom on Thursday, October 8th at 7pm.

Adam Blackman ( Executive Producer & Impact Producer) and Katy Scoggin (Director/Producer) will be present for a Q+A after the screening.
